Newcomer Centers

Newcomer Centers are designed for students who are new to the United States, have a history of limited or interrupted education and have minimal literacy skills in both their native language and English. Newcomer Center students receive English instruction that focuses on accelerating both English and content proficiency with low student-adult ratios.

Newcomer Centers prepare students to participate in MLE programs and mainstream classrooms.

An initial review of students’ educational background takes place during registration at a student’s home school. If they meet the criteria to attend a Newcomer Center, and parents or guardians would like to pursue this option, they are referred to the appropriate Newcomer Center.
