In dual language programs, students are taught in two languages throughout their elementary or secondary education.
Currently, all district-run dual language programs in DPS are taught in Spanish and English. In DPS, every district-run dual language program includes at the elementary level, at least 50% of instruction in Spanish, through the fifth grade, and at the secondary level, Spanish Language Arts and one content area taught in Spanish.
There are four dual language/immersion charter schools. Two of the programs are taught in Spanish and English. One of the programs offers Mandarin in addition to Spanish. And one of the programs offers French.
Most DPS dual language programs start in ECE or kindergarten and extend through 5th grade. DPS offers three secondary programs for students who would like to continue dual language programming beyond 5th grade: grades 6-8 at Bryant Webster, West Middle School and Denver Language School.
French American School of Denver will open in the Fall of 2021 as K-3. They will build out to K-8 one grade per year through 2026.
